Macula

Fixture-agnostic remote followspot with a broadcast-grade head — and PSN out, so the pickup can feed the whole rig.

What it is

Macula, from LC Innovations, is a camera-based remote followspot built around a high-resolution fluid head and a 17" touchscreen — deliberately fixture-agnostic, so it drives whatever the rig carries. Since firmware 8.99 it outputs PSN, which changes its role: an operator's pickup stops being one fixture's control signal and becomes tracking data the rest of the show can subscribe to.

How we work with it

We spec and program Macula where inventory flexibility matters — touring rigs, rep houses, shows that change fixtures venue to venue — and we design the PSN merges that let a Macula pickup ride alongside automated tracking. Our current tour-prep work pairs Macula with Zactrack in exactly that hybrid configuration.

The honest read

Right when

  • The fixture inventory is mixed, rented, or changes on the road — agnostic control travels.
  • You want an operator pickup that doubles as a PSN tracking source.
  • The operator experience matters: the fluid head keeps a broadcast-camera feel.

Look elsewhere when

  • An all-Robe rig — RoboSpot's native integration will be simpler.
  • The show needs continuous multi-performer tracking with no operators; that's UWB or optical territory.
Common questions

Can Macula feed tracking data to other systems?

Yes — since firmware 8.99 it outputs PSN, so the operator's pickup can drive fixture groups, feed a translation layer, or merge with automated tracking sources.
